Face to face emotional support for women, men and transgender survivors of sexual assault or rape
Dorset Rape Crisis Support Centre (DRCSC) is committed to providing a quality service for female, male and transgender survivors of sexual assault of all ages.
What is Counselling?
Counselling provides you with an opportunity to explore feelings, thoughts and behaviours that are overwhelming you or that you want to understand and /or change. You will have regular meetings with a person who has been trained to listen respectfully to what you say. DRCSC operates a person-centred approach, using a trauma model, we create a safe space for you to explore relationship patterns and address the emotional impact of relational abuse. We help you understand the impact of trauma on both your brain and body, giving you control and choice.
How Can I access the Counselling service?
Survivors wishing to access counselling can make a self-referral or ask a professional they already receive support from to make a referral on their behalf. Once the referral has been received by our team survivors will be offered an initial assessment with the Clinical Lead, or a suitably experienced counsellor on behalf of the Clinical Lead, where we discuss which part of the service will best meet your need for support.
Where will it take place?
Most of our counselling takes place at our base in Poole town centre but we are able to offer appointments in Weymouth, Dorchester and Verwood. You will be given details of where to go when booking your first appointment.
What about confidentiality?
DRCSC is a confidential service. We intend to provide the highest level of confidentiality and all information remains within the organisation. We will never disclose information to anyone outside the organisation without discussing it with you first.
However, if the Counsellor feels that someone under 18 is at risk of serious harm or abuse or that you are in danger, they will have to pass on your information to other agencies as per Dorset wide Safeguarding procedures and protocols. Most other organisations work in similar ways to safeguard vulnerable individuals.
